A few years ago I read about one of the latest theories on why we dream. Over the course of the day we are overwhelmed by a constant barrage of input through our five senses. But at night when we put those senses to sleep, the mind’s reaction to the sudden vacuum of stimuli is to compensate by making its own. In other words, it dreams.
Obviously dreams come in all different shapes and sizes, and I dare say that the dreams I had when I was young are vastly different than what I wake up with today. Still, amazing dreams happen to all of us. Many people occasionally have dreams that solve a long standing problem, while others receive visits from loved ones who have left us. Some get short, second chances at lost loves.
And then there are the IDEAS. Often I wake up, as I did a few days ago, with an interesting idea. And my first thought was “Wow, that might make a great book.”
What do your dreams do for you?
